Laura Loomer

Introduction

Laura Loomer (born May 21, 1993) is an American far-right activist, internet personality, and former political candidate. Born in Tucson, Arizona and raised there with her two brothers, Loomer began college at Mount Holyoke (Massachusetts) but left after one semester, claiming conservative students were marginalized. She then transferred to Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where she earned a 2015 B.A. in broadcast journalism. Loomer is Jewish by heritage. While at Barry, she became involved in conservative activism – for example, alerting a right-wing blog when an imam spoke at a 9/11 memorial on campus, and later staging a fake request to form a pro-ISIS student group (a stunt recorded by Project Veritas). This earned her a suspension from the university in 2015.

Activism and Early Career

After college, Loomer worked as an undercover journalist with Project Veritas (James O’Keefe’s organization). In 2016 she carried out stunts such as dressing in a burqa to vote under the name “Huma Abedin” at a New York polling station. She later joined Rebel Media and even briefly collaborated with conspiracy outlets like Infowars. Loomer quickly gained notoriety through confrontational actions. For instance, on June 16, 2017, she stormed the stage of a New York “Julius Caesar” play (where Caesar was portrayed as Donald Trump), livestreaming her protest shouting “Stop the normalization of political violence against the right!” Police arrested her for disorderly conduct and trespassing. That play had already drawn conservative outcry, and Trump’s sons publicly criticized it. Loomer’s actions drew support from fringe figures – she later told Fox News she had known disrupting the play would lead to charges – but also criticism from many quarters.

Loomer continued similar activism in following years. In March 2018 her media credentials were revoked at the Orlando courthouse during the trial of Noor Salman (the Pulse nightclub shooter’s widow), after she harassed Salman’s family with questions about Islam and jihad. In late 2018 she famously handcuffed herself to Twitter’s NYC headquarters in protest of her Twitter ban (after her anti-Muslim posts). Through these stunts and viral posts, Loomer built an online profile as a “free speech” advocate; she often says she isn’t truly anti-Muslim but “anti-Islam,” and has publicly collected cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in the name of free speech.

Ideology and Controversial Views

Loomer espouses hardline “America First” and nativist positions. She has repeatedly expressed anti-Muslim rhetoric, describing Islam as a “cancer on society” and calling herself a “proud Islamophobe,” and characterizing all Muslims as the same and “savages” who “ruin everything.” These statements drew multiple platform bans. For example, after she targeted newly elected Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) with posts calling her “pro-Sharia” and “anti-Jewish,” Twitter permanently suspended Loomer in 2018. She later mounted unsuccessful lawsuits against Twitter and Facebook, claiming they censored conservative voices – her cases were dismissed.

In late 2024 she ignited outrage by tweeting that the U.S. was built by “white Europeans” and calling Indian H-1B tech workers “third-world invaders,” a remark widely denounced as racist. She routinely amplifies conspiracy theories: for example, she asserted (without evidence) that 9/11 was an “inside job” (a claim she later backtracked on), falsely claimed Haitians eat pets, and promoted baseless election conspiracies after 2020. Loomer denies being racist, even as she has praised “white nationalism” and made derogatory comments (like saying a Kamala Harris presidency would make “the White House smell like curry”).

Political Campaigns and Affiliations

Loomer is active in Republican politics, styling herself as an “America First” Republican. She twice ran for U.S. Congress in Florida. In 2020 she won the Republican primary for Florida’s 21st Congressional District, campaigning on election integrity and immigration restrictions. That primary win (her “victory party” even featured Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes, troll Jacob Wohl, election activist Ali Alexander, and Trump ally Roger Stone) earned Trump’s endorsement. Loomer then lost the November 2020 general election decisively to Democratic Rep. Lois Frankel. In 2022 she again sought a House seat (in another Florida district) but did not win the Republican primary. Throughout these campaigns, she labeled opponents as “RINOs” and pushed election-fraud claims. (She has since discussed running again but has instead focused on media activism.)

Media Appearances and Social Media Presence

Loomer maintains a strong online presence. Under Elon Musk’s ownership, her banned Twitter (now X) account was reinstated in late 2022, and she quickly amassed over a million followers on X. She also posts on Truth Social (Trump’s platform) and runs her own media outlet Illoominate Media, publishing articles supporting Trump. Loomer hosts a podcast on Rumble called “Loomer Unleashed”, and she appears regularly on far-right shows (e.g. Steve Bannon’s War Room).

Public Perception and Influence

Laura Loomer is a highly polarizing figure. Within Trump’s circle she has at times wielded unusual access. Trump himself has praised her publicly: he has called her a “strong person” and “free spirit.” Observers note Loomer’s anti-establishment image draws a mix of ridicule and idolization – “far-right at its most extreme.”

Current Status and Projects (2024–2025)

As of 2025, Loomer continues as a far-right media operative and Trump ally. She remains active on social media and continues to build her brand in Trump’s orbit.
